Liam, Lili, and Sandoval are attending a press conference for the opening of another portal, and are in the crowd. Lili comments that three portals having been opened just in the last month. There are already fifty-four portals in operation and twenty more are being built. Soon it will be possible to travel anywhere on the planet in a few minutes, and Lili says that there will be no place left to get away from it all. Sandoval makes an announcement "that they are coming through", as Da'an and two unidentified dignitaries emerge from the portal. One of the dignitaries is Glen Ballard, the Secretary for Transportation, who goes to the podium and remarks that after all the trips he has taken through the ID portals, he still finds it exhilarating. Da'an and Zo'or are introduced to the audience and they step to the podium. Da'an gives a brief speech in which he says that he is pleased to see the ongoing cooperation between the Taelon and human communities. In his eyes, the new portal represents a doorway between Taelons and humanity which the two races have opened together. Zo'or adds that construction of the portal network would not be possible without the work of the project's gifted human director, Dr. Jeffrey Whitfield. He shakes Dr. Whitfield's hand as the crowd applauds and the press snap pictures.
In the crowd an unidentified middle aged man is putting on his glasses, and suddenly we see the stage and the podium through his eyes and his glasses. It is rather like looking through the viewfinder of a camera. As we look, cross hairs appear, centered on Dr. Whitfield, along with the words, "Tracker Start Sequence" below the cross hairs. As Dr. Whitfield begins his speech, the words change to "Tracking On-Line". Dr. Whitfield expresses what a thrill it has been to study this exciting new technology which is bringing them one step closer to creating a global community. The man in the audience unbuttons his jacket and presses buttons on a device in his inside jacket pocket. He looks up at the doctor. We are looking through his eyes again, and this time the words are, "Locking on Target - Target Locked." Suddenly Whitfield suddenly collapses in pain. Liam asks the doctor if he is all right. Whitfield seems to recover for a moment and says a few words before collapsing in pain and going into convulsions. His eyes turn dark and opaque and his mouth seems to glow as he falls to the floor.
Sandoval hurries Da'an and Zo'or from the scene at once, leaving Lili and Liam to cope with the dead Dr. Whitfield.
On the mother ship, Liam is discussing Whitfield's death with Zo'or, Da'an and Sandoval. Just before Whitfield collapsed, Liam noticed an energy discharge and wonders if the new portal had affected Whitfield. Zo'or is adamant that the portals are safe. Liam asks how Zo'or can be so confident in light of the problems encountered in the past with terminals. Zo'or says that the problems were an isolated incident of contamination from an external source, and that portals have been in use on the Taelon home world for centuries without a single fatality. Sandoval makes the remark that nevertheless the human public may blame the portal for what happened. Zo'or tells Sandoval that it is imperative they find the real cause of Whitfield's death as quickly as possible. It is Liam's suggestion that until the real cause is found, the portals should be shut down. Zo'or refuses to close down the portals. He insists that they remain open and construction of the new portals proceed on schedule. Liam asks Zo'or if there is something particularly important about the portal network. Zo'or replies that the portal network is a symbol of the cooperation between Taelons and humanity, that the Taelons have made a commitment to share the benefits of their technology with humanity, and that he does not wish to break that promise. Before Liam is unable to press the issue, Sandoval tells Zo'or that they are due at the lab to examine the autopsy report.
An autopsy has been done by Dr. Belman in her lab and she relates her findings to Liam and Sandoval. She tells them that as much as she hates the idea of flinging her molecules through the ID portals, they had nothing to do with Whitfield's death at all. Whitfield was killed by something surprisingly traditional, a massive dose of cyanide. Liam is curious about how the cyanide is connected to the energy flash he saw just before Whitfield's death, but Dr. Belman does not know. She tells Liam that the poison was concentrated in the very center of the body, and was surrounded by massive tissue damage, rather as though a cyanide bomb had exploded inside Whitfield. She thinks that is what Liam saw. Sandoval wonders if the death was a suicide and if Whitfield swallowed the cyanide bomb himself. Dr. Belman dispels that notion, saying that the poison was not released from the stomach but from the center of the chest cavity. Liam wonders if the cyanide was injected and Dr. Belman tells him that she has no idea how the poison got into the chest cavity,, but there were no injection marks or entry wounds anywhere on the body.
Sandoval's global beeps. He answers it and tells Liam that he (Liam) must report downtown. A Taelon engineer is speaking at a press conference, and Da'an wishes Liam protect him. Liam and Sandoval thank Dr. Belman and leave the autopsy lab together.
At the conference, Ballard addresses the public's concern about the safety of the portal systems following Whitfield's death. He has asked one of the senior Taelon advisors, Sa'al, to speak to the crowd about the safety of the portals. Sa'al, tells those present that he worked very closely with Dr. Whitfield, and that like everyone, he wants an explanation for Whitfield's death. He examined the portal carefully afterward he accident and is certain that it had nothing to do with Whitfield's death and poses no risk to human safety. A reporter asks how Whitfield died and is told that Whitfield died from cyanide poisoning. Ballard tells the audience that they must not allow Whitfield's death to shake their confidence in his great achievements, and that the portal network remains the safest mode of transport ever devised. As he speaks, Lili tells Liam that Doors is on his way into the building, and is heading in his direction. Doors asks Liam if he is going to prevent him from entering. As he steps back into the crowd, Liam says that it is still a free country as far as he knows.
At the podium, Ballard is trying to end the press conference when Doors appears in the audience and asks a question. Lili is worried, feeling that security is stretched too thinly to be able to handle Doors. Liam tells her to keep the teams focussed on all the key entries. For the second time we see the unidentified man in the glasses who is in this audience as well. This time he has Sa'al fixed in his sights. The device in his pocket has been activated and is already tracking the Taelon engineer.
Doors and Ballard are discussing Whitfield's death. Ballard points out that Sa'al has more experience with the portal technology than any human being. Doors agrees, but asks if it is in the best interests of the Taelons to admit that portal technology is flawed, if that is the case. Sa'al cries out suddenly, and there is a discharge of energy from his mouth just as with Whitfield a moment before he collapsed. Liam summons a medical team and Lili secures the conference area, as Doors is escorted out of the area. As he is leaving the room, the unidentified man with the glasses collides with Lili. Sa'al cries out once from the stage and suddenly disintegrates in a shower of sparks.
On the mother ship, Zo'or is furious, telling Sandoval, Liam and Lili that a Taelon has never been murdered by a human before. Liam asks why Zo'or assumes that the killer is human, when he or she could be a Taelon. Zo'or replies that his people do not commit cold blooded murder as casually as humanity does, and that it is inconceivable that a Taelon would have sufficient reason to kill an ordinary engineer. Sandoval ponders the possibility that the assassin is a Jaridian scout with cloaking abilities. Zo'or says that the Jaridians have never done anything like this. He shudders convulsively and says that Sa'al disintegrated from within. Liam asks what could kill a Taelon in such a fashion, and Zo'or tells him that before this day he would have said nothing could. There is a remote possibility that a common energy disrupter could have caused such damage, but only if it were somehow placed inside Sa'al's body. Liam says that there were similarities between Sa'al's death and that of Whitfield. Sandoval reassures Zo'or, saying that they will track down assassin by whatever means necessary. The crafty Zo'or's demeanor changes suddenly, and he tells Sandoval and Liam that they must use great care to find the assassin quickly and bring him to Zo'or alive. When Liam and Sandoval protest that the assassin is a terrorist, Zo'or raises his hand to silence them and leaves the room.
Liam and Da'an discuss Zo'or's final instructions. Liam remarks that Zo'or should be eager to avenge the Taelon's death and wonders why he isn't. Da'an thinks that Zo'or may wish to understand why someone would commit such crimes. Liam is not confident that the killer is a human. He says that Zo'or's behavior has established that Taelons are capable of murder, and that Zo'or himself has tried to kill Da'an himself more than once. Da'an makes excuses for Zo'or saying that matters are far more complicated than Liam understands and that Zo'or is a leader with responsibilities to the entire Taelon race. He excuses Zo'or's attempts to kill him by saying that Zo'or genuinely believes that his ideas pose a threat to the common good. Liam accuses Da'an of trying to justify Zo'or's actions. Da'an replies that he merely wishes to understand Zo'or's reasoning, and that he agrees with Zo'or's assessment that a Taelon is not responsible. Da'an believes that there are humans who are opposed to the spread of Taelon technology and feel compelled to take action to defend their race. Liam looks askance at the last statement and says, "You mean people like the Resistance movement." Da'an answers in the affirmative. Liam, who is irritated by the suggestion, says acidly that if Da'an is asking whether the Resistance assassinated Dr. Whitfield and Sa'al, the answer is no. Da'an, recognizing the rebuke implicit in Liam's words and his tone of voice, thanks Liam and apologizes for asking before he walks away.
Liam is in his office at the embassy and Sandoval is updating him about efforts to find the killer. Technicians have reviewed all of the news footage and security scans, and have retrieved images of everyone who attended both the portal ceremony, and Ballard's press conference. Twenty-two people attended both events. After members of the security team were eliminated, ten potential suspects remained. As much as he hated to do so, Sandoval then eliminated the members of the press, and that left only one suspect. The remaining suspect is the unidentified man with the "tracking" glasses seen in the opening scene of the episode and at Ballard's second press conference. Sandoval has been able to identify the suspect as Arnold Creighton, a former professor at MIT who is an outspoken critic of the Taelons, and has refused to participate in any research project based on Taelon technology. Creighton's conduct put him out of the mainstream and the flow of funding. The grant money which once supported Creighton's work has been reallocated to Taelon projects. Liam understands and tells Sandoval that Creighton must have targeted Whitfield because Whitfield was in charge of the grant committee. Creighton's last known location is a basement lab provided by an alternate university who are trouble makers and supporters of a protest movement against the Taelons. The assault team has already been assembled and Sandoval is eager to apprehend Creighton.
The assault team converges on the building where Creighton is thought to be hiding out, and Liam asks Sandoval if they really need so much muscle, saying wryly that they are not invading Normandy. Sandoval does not reply. Liam asks Lili if Creighton is known to the Resistance and she replies that he tried to join the Resistance a couple of years ago, but was turned down. Liam finds it hard to believe that Doors would turn down an MIT professor who wanted to help the movement. Lili tells him that Creighton was only interested in his own personal vendetta against the Taelons, and that Doors had him pegged as an extremist. Liam admits that Doors was right.
A group of dissident students step into Sandoval's path and he orders them to stand aside. One of the students asks if they have a warrant, and Sandoval gives them five seconds to get out of his way. The student claims that they still have rights as free citizens in a free country. When the five seconds are up, Sandoval grabs the student and hurls him out of the way. The assault team begin to beat the students up, but as this is happening, the scene is being filmed by another student with a video camera. Lili and Liam both try to stop to the attack. Liam sees the student with the camera and pursues him, but the student flees. The other members of the group disperse and Sandoval enters the building, followed by Lili and Liam. They discover Creighton's laboratory and search it, but it is empty, and Liam surmises that Creighton knew that they would eventually track him down there. Sandoval tells them to look for any documentation of Creighton's work so that they can figure out what he is using.
Suddenly all the computers in the lab power up and Creighton appears on a monitor, saying that he is sorry he couldn't be there in person to greet them, but thought it wiser to keep moving. Liam tells Creighton that hiding only makes him seem more guilty. Creighton blithely admits his guilt and his pride in his accomplishments. Sandoval tries to trace the signal as Liam tries to keep Creighton talking. Liam asks if Creighton is proud of killing two innocent people. Creighton replies that the dead were a Taelon and a collaborator who were conspiring to suppress independent thought. He says he was forced out because he refused to pledge allegiance to the alien oppressors. He proudly tells Liam that he was not defeated, that he managed to complete his work in spite of "them", and that the whole world has now witnessed proof of that. Liam cannot understand Creighton's reasoning. The worst thing the Taelons did to him was cut off his funding. How can that justify murder? Creighton says that the two deaths were arranged to demonstrate that there is still one human being who can out think an alien, and that humanity are a force to be reckoned with. Liam feels that Creighton is simply trying to validate his anger and his aggression. Sandoval is still trying to trace Creighton's signal, but Creighton tells him that he's wasting his time because the signal has been routed through a dozen different transmitters. He berates Sandoval saying that the Taelons have him tracking down a fellow human being, and he rails at Sandoval for being a party to the subjugation of his own flesh and his own race. Sandoval says that matters are not as simple as Creighton thinks they are. Creighton ends the transmission in disgust. A small device appears in the air above them and Lili runs toward the door, but Sandoval and Liam remain. As the device plummets toward the floor, Liam raises his hands, palms outward and tells everyone to get down. His Sha' karava begins to glow, and he uses it as a shield to protect Sandoval and Lili from the blast which is about to take place. The device goes off and Liam is thrown backward by the force of the explosion, but no one is hurt. Lili asks them if she is losing her mind, because the bomb seemed to just appear out of thin air.
In his flat, Augur is boasting to Liam and Lili about information he has received, and they are impatient with his boasting. Holo Lili appears, dressed as a cheerleader and does an Augur cheer as Augur tries unsuccessfully to banish her. The real Lili is very irritated and asks Augur if they have ever discussed licensing fees for Holo Lili. Holo Lili sticks her tongue out at Lili before disappearing. Augur has located Creighton's last research grant application, and tells them that Creighton was researching the quantum displacement of subatomic particles. Current quantum theory maintains that subatomic particles can leap instantly from one physical place to another. Creighton believed that if all matter is composed of subatomic particles, then anything can jump instantly through space. They both realize that Creighton has somehow managed to create a teleportation device. Liam asks if the device is like an ID portal. Augur explains that ID travel requires a huge power generator like a portal or a shuttle engine, but that it can only create a shorter, quicker pathway between two points like a wormhole, through which a normal body can travel. The possibilities with a teleporter are endless because one can instantly transport an object to any point in space, even within another solid object. Lili asks how this can be possible when even the Taelons don't have such technology. Augur chides her for not believing that a human scientist would be capable of such a discovery before the Taelons and says that the Taelons are not as far ahead as they think they are. Liam says this is what Creighton said he was trying to prove. Augur hasn't a clue how the device works without seeing one. He thinks that Creighton has to know the precise location of both the object being sent and the target destination. He must have had a direct line of sight to Whitfield and the murdered Taelon. At this point Doors appears on the television screen and they pause to watch his interview.
Doors says that the illegal search and seizure carried out at Creighton's lab by Sandoval and his team is just the latest example of the Taelon's disregard for basic human rights. A video clip of the confrontation between Sandoval's team and the students is shown. Doors suggests that a formal agreement be drafted between the Taelons and human leaders which would require the Taelons to respect and obey human laws. The point is made that 86% of the population believe that Taelons should be held to the same standard of behavior as humans. Lili says sarcastically that it is official - Doors is a politician.
On the mother ship Zo'or tells Sandoval that President Thompson is concerned about the effect that the incident with the students will have on his image with the electorate. Sandoval feels that Thompson has nothing to worry about and that the whole thing will be forgotten by next week. Zo'or tells Sandoval that Thompson does not share his optimism and has requested that he be relieved of his duties. Sandoval defends himself, saying that he has been conducting this investigation with the same dedication he has given Zo'or during the past three years. Zo'or replies that Sandoval's dedication was caught on camera this time, and that it was foolish to publicly invoke his authority as a protector, particularly since he is still an agent with the FBI. He tells Sandoval that he should have at least have maintained the appearance of operation under FBI jurisdiction, rather than exposing the Taelons to public humiliation.
Liam enters the room to hear Sandoval ask Zo'or if he wants his (Sandoval's) resignation. Zo'or is dismissive and says that he does not take orders from humans, even Presidents. He tells Liam and Sandoval that they must find Creighton. If Taelon scientists are correct, Creighton possesses a new and extremely dangerous form of technology, a teleportation device. Liam feigns surprise and asks how a human scientist could develop such a technology without the Taelons even being aware of it. Zo'or replies that they received his funding request three years earlier and that Creighton's theories of matter displacement had already been discovered by Taelon scientists who attempted to develop a teleportation technology and were not successful. Liam and Sandoval both realize that this is why Zo'or wants Creighton alive, for his teleportation device. Zo'or says that as a more evolved species, Taelons are better suited to deciding the best use of the technology and that Creighton has proved it does not belong in human hands. Sandoval adds that such technology particularly does not belong in the hands of the human military, or even worse, the Resistance.
Liam contacts Lili, telling her that Zo'or is aware that Creighton has a teleporter and wants it for himself. Lili has spoken to Doors who believes that it may be necessary to kill Creighton to keep him out of Taelon hands. She asks if Liam is comfortable with that idea and Liam's reply is a vehement "no". Lili says that they must make sure that it doesn't come down to eliminating Creighton. Liam will try to delay Sandoval while Lili and the Resistance locate Creighton. They will try to motivate Augur to devise a way of tracking Creighton quickly.
Zo'or tells Sandoval that Da'an will be attending a private meeting with human political leaders and will offer a formal apology for the unfortunate incident with the students. He believes that the public will be reassured to know that such a meeting is taking place, and he wants Sandoval to leak the information through unofficial channels.
Sandoval asks if it wouldn't it be safer to keep the meeting a secret until it's over. If Creighton finds out about it, Da'an will surely be a target. Zo'or says smoothly that he will rely on Sandoval to keep a very close watch on Da'an using all the surveillance technology at his disposal. If Creighton does attempt to assassinate Da'an, the teleporter's energy readings may lead them to him. Sandoval says that Creighton will probably be close by, but that he has to be able to reach him in time to save Da'an's life. Zo'or replies that all he or the Synod can expect is for Sandoval to use his best efforts. Sandoval begins to say something and falls silent as Zo'or turns his chair away, closing off the discussion. It is obvious to Sandoval that Zo'or is, in fact, telling him that he should not protect Da'an too closely. Sandoval says that he understands, and Zo'or suggests that he begin at once.
Meanwhile Augur is trying to devise a way to track Creighton. Holo Lili indicates that her internet tracking subroutines have picked up several references to Da'an's name. Augur shows Lili the information about Da'an's meeting with the human leaders. Since the Taelons would not normally disclose such information, it means that they are using Da'an as bait to lure Creighton into their net. Lili exclaims that Da'an is a sitting duck and so is Liam. They contact Liam to let him know what is going on, and Augur volunteers to watch Liam's back using the NSA's monitoring systems.
Liam informs Da'an that Creighton probably knows about the upcoming meeting, and that he (Da'an) is probably not safe, but Da'an refuses to call off the meeting. The room for the meeting has been selected at random as a precaution, and it has been sealed against intruders.
Da'an and Liam enter the building, and as they do Liam tries to dissuade Da'an from attending the meeting, saying that Zo'or is using him as bait. Nevertheless Da'an feels that with the proper security arrangements in place, he should risk his own safety to apprehend Creighton. Liam says that Zo'or would not do so, and Da'an replies that he is not Zo'or. Liam is resigned, but decides to keep Da'an's pilot and shuttle on stand-by. They enter the conference room and Da'an apologizes to those present for the affair with the students.
In his lab, Creighton places a small unidentified device on a tablet and teleports it into the NSA building where Da'an's meeting is taking place. The device is equipped with a surveillance camera, and it hovers in the air close to the ceiling to escape detection. Creighton watches the device's movements on his computer screen as he directs its movements through the corridors in search of Da'an.
Augur and Lili are also monitoring the activities in the NSA building on Augur's computer system. They identify energy fluctuations in the building and contact Liam at once.
At the conference, Da'an tells those in attendance that diplomatic immunity will apply to the Companions for each country, but not to their staff members.
Liam directs the building security to search for Creighton.
Lili and Augur realize simultaneously that Creighton has a surveillance device and does not have to be near the building to locate Da'an. Lili asks Augur if he locate the energy signal for the teleporter and find its source. Augur can do it, but it will mean canceling his surveillance of Liam and Augur, and they decide to continue to monitor Liam and Da'an so that they can warn them as quickly as possible. Lili thinks that Creighton may be using a spy camera.
Sandoval orders that sensors be focussed to locate the source of the energy being generated. He tells Zo'or that Creighton appears to have targeted Da'an and that they will find him. In the conference room Da'an agrees that Taelon Companions will be responsible for respecting the laws of the country in which they serve.
Creighton's surveillance camera locates Da'an.
Augur is monitoring the NSA building and realizes that Creighton has located the conference room. Lili contacts Liam to warn him.
Liam seizes Da'an and tells everyone to evacuate the building. A bomb pops out of the air and lands in Da'an's empty chair exploding, but everyone has already left the room. Liam and Da'an hasten toward the shuttle. Lili notifies Liam that there is another teleportation right behind them and Liam and Da'an quickly dodge around a corner.
In his lab, Creighton is becoming irritated and says aloud that "they"can run, but they can't hide from him. He types commands on his computer keyboard which cause the unit to jump about twenty meters ahead. Augur tells Liam they should have a clear path down the hallway toward the emergency exit. Liam asks if Augur has been able to locate Creighton, and when Augur tells him why he cannot, tells him to concentrate on finding Creighton. He tells Augur that if Augur is able to track the energy traces, then the Taelons can do so as well, and Creighton must be found before the Taelons track him down.
Lili tells Augur that Liam is right and tells him to redirect the scan. Augur protests that he will be leaving Da'an and Liam defenseless, and Lili says she knows, but that he must proceed.
Sandoval has also been able to track Creighton using the energy readings, and he tells Zo'or that they are pursuing Creighton.
Liam and Da'an are able to exit the building finally, but Creighton's device is already outside waiting for them. Da'an takes shelter behind Liam as Liam tries to reason with Creighton, telling him to stop and listen. He tells Creighton that he is a Resistance member, and this is a shock to Creighton. Liam tells Creighton that they share the same concerns about the future of humanity, and that it is not too late for them to work together.
Augur is able to locate Creighton and Lili moves to her shuttle.
Liam tells Creighton that the world has changed, but that it is still up to him how he wants to leave his mark on it, as a man of science who has kept the spirit of human innovation alive, or as a cold blooded killer. Creighton has a lot to think about, and he steps away from his computer. The device which is no longer being directed by Creighton becomes inactive for a moment. Liam tells Da'an to hurry to the shuttle. Creighton sees Da'an escaping from him and transmits a signal for the teleporter to materialize a bomb.
Liam sees the bomb coming and is able to evade it. He fires at the device with his weapon and destroys it, then he goes to Da'an and tells him to go interdimensional where Creighton and his devices will be unable to locate him.
Lili is approaching Creighton's lab with her weapon drawn. She cocks the weapon and inserts a round in the chamber, and moves around the corner. She is surprised to see Sandoval standing there with his skrill in readiness. He asks her what she is doing there, and she tells him that Liam and Da'an are under attack at the conference and that energy readings have been unidentified which are emanating from this building. When Sandoval asks her how she came by the information, she tells him blithely that she used her shuttle scanner. Sandoval breaks into the building and Lili follows him. When they locate Creighton, he congratulates them on their detective work, then activates a device in the palm of his hand. Lili tells him to put down the device, but Creighton refuses to hand over his life's work. Lili orders him again to put don the device and prepares to fire at him. Sandoval, realizing that Lili is about to fire, pushes her arm aside just as she pulls the trigger, saying that they must have Creighton alive. Creighton disappears before their eyes. Lili contacts Liam to tell him that Creighton has teleported himself out of the lab.
Augur is able to determine that Creighton has teleported himself into a warehouse a few blocks away and arranges to meet Liam there. Augur is reluctant to go until Liam mentions the merchandising rights for the teleporter. As he leaves, Augur tells Holo Lili that he has a job for her.
Liam and Augur meet at the warehouse, happy that they have arrived before Sandoval. Augur tells Liam that Holo Lili is generating a false energy reading resembling a teleporter, but it is twice as strong. The reading appears to be emanating from a location on the other side of town and is calculated to draw Sandoval away from Creighton's real location.
Sandoval has followed the false energy reading and finds himself at the White House. Lili says she only showed him what was on her scanner and that Creighton must have used a false signal to throw them off track. Sandoval tells her brusquely to reset the scanners and find the real energy signature. Lili stalls, telling Sandoval that it will take a few minutes.
Inside the building, Liam and Augur discover a dying Creighton. He has materialized in a space which is occupied by a metal shelving unit and his torso has been cut almost in two by the unit. Liam is too horrified for words. Creighton is in incredible pain, but manages to gasp out that it is his own fault. He was certain he remembered the exact dimensions of the room. Liam says that agents must have moved the shelving unit when they searched the building for Creighton the first time. He asks if Creighton can teleport himself out of here. Creighton replies that it wouldn't help because he would still have internal injuries. Augur wants to get him to a hospital, but Creighton refuses to go. The Taelons will continue to pursue him and he will not let them acquire his teleporter technology. Creighton says that he should have listened to Liam and joined forces with the Resistance rather than pursuing his revenge solo. When Liam says that it is not too late, Creighton says that there is only one way he can protect his secrets.
Sandoval and Lili are outside the warehouse and Lili is still trying to stall Sandoval. The sensors have been quiet for twenty minutes and Sandoval is sure that Creighton is there. He contacts his team and instructs them to approach the warehouse on his signal.
The dying Creighton programs the device to teleport into itself, causing an anti matter explosion. Liam and Augur realize what Creighton is about to do and flee. The explosion generates an enormous fireball which blows out the windows in the warehouse. Liam and Augur climb out of a pile of masonry and glass unscathed, and Liam tells Augur to leave before every cop in town shows up.
Sandoval searches the building and finds no sign of a teleporter device. Liam and Lili leave the scene together and Liam contacts Augur to make sure that he is safe. He tells Augur that the device was completely destroyed. Neither side have the device or the technology required to build a teleporter device.
Liam, Lili and Augur are at Augur's apartment and Augur tells them they aren't really back where they started because he has a record of all the energy transmissions from the teleportation operations. Liam says that the Taelons must have the data as well. Augur says that the Taelons will certainly be trying as hard to figure the device out as he is, and that it is simply a matter of who is smarter. It may take a lifetime, but sooner or later someone will figure it out teleporter technology. Lili finds it comforting that a human "has already been there first ahead of the Taelons". Liam remarks that what it means is that humanity do indeed have a chance of defeating the Taelons in battle after all.
